Braga arrived aiming to defend their away advantage to secure a final berth. However, Dorgeles’ early dismissal forced a complete tactical reshuffle. Vicens switched to a 4-4-1 formation, with Gorby dropping deeper to cover the gap left by the sent-off player, adopting a much more defensive role.
Shortly after, Kubler opened the scoring with a slice of luck. A looping cross fell dead in the penalty area, and after a clearance attempt by the Braga defense, the ball ricocheted off the German full-back’s knee. The ball trickled goalward, hit the post, and crossed the line amidst suspense, leaving a surprised Hornicek helpless. The tie became an uphill battle for the Portuguese side.

The full-back capitalized on a well-delivered set-piece, connecting with an unstoppable header from close range. Running in with full momentum, he directed the ball just inside the right post, leaving Hornicek with no chance.
It was far from over. Just when it looked set in stone, Pau Gómez scored easily from a pass by Víctor Gómez, tapping into an empty net to keep the tie alive. From that point, Braga’s morale soared, believing firmly in a comeback, attacking and threatening the opposition goal.
In the final play, even the goalkeeper came up for a header, but the referee blew the final whistle, declaring Freiburg the winner. They held firm at home and advanced to the final after a stunning comeback.
