A prime opportunity to rebound in front of their supporters slipped away for LAFC on Sunday evening at BMO Stadium, as the Black and Gold were handed a decisive 4-1 loss by Houston Dynamo FC. The defeat leaves LAFC with a 6-3-3 record and marks their second consecutive loss, both conceding four goals. For Houston, it was only their second road win of the season, improving to 2-3-0 away from Shell Energy Stadium. Jack McGlynn led the Dynamo’s charge, netting his first two goals of 2026.
“We clearly dominated possession and spent most of the game in their half,” said head coach Marc Dos Santos. “But every time we turned the ball over, we seemed incapable of handling their three players on the counter. At this point in the season, given the physical toll we’ve endured, there are lapses in quality and concentration that are costing us.”
With leading scorer Denis Bouanga sidelined due to yellow card accumulation, Nathan Ordaz provided LAFC’s only goal in the 45th minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1 at the time. He connected with Jacob Shaffelburg’s cross into the center of the box and deflected it past Houston goalkeeper Jonathan Bond for his third goal across all competitions.
Ordaz acknowledged that the team’s packed schedule in the early months has taken a toll, but he refused to use it as an excuse.
“If you’re playing more games, you’re going to be more tired. That’s just the reality,” he said. “Yes, we’ve played more games, but we still have to go out and compete. We might be tired, but we’re not ‘4-1 tired’.”
The match began with a quiet 25 minutes before McGlynn opened the scoring with a stunning left-footed strike from outside the box, catching LAFC’s defense off guard. Just nine minutes later, Guilherme Augusto’s free kick found its way past Hugo Lloris, making it 2-0. Lloris had entered the game with eight clean sheets in ten MLS starts this season, but the Dynamo broke through their early-season offensive struggles. Houston, which had scored only 13 goals (tied for third fewest in the Western Conference), erupted for a season-high four goals against LAFC.
“Our first 25 minutes were solid,” Dos Santos added. “We were pressuring Houston, and then the first time they got near our goal, they hit a spectacular shot. Seasons are long, and they’re made up of moments like that.”
Although Ordaz’s goal just before halftime erased some of the disappointment from the first 45 minutes, LAFC couldn’t sustain their momentum. Former LAFC midfielder Mateusz Bogusz, who played two seasons for the club, made it 3-1 in the 51st minute after collecting his own rebound and firing into the bottom left corner. Four minutes later, McGlynn scored his second of the night—a calm left-footed finish past Lloris—prompting boos from the BMO Stadium crowd. The 22-year-old had not registered a single point across all competitions since March 14 before breaking out in this match.
One other bright spot for LAFC came from Eddie Segura. The defender started the match, marking his 153rd MLS regular-season appearance for the club, surpassing Carlos Vela for the most in LAFC history.
“Coming here has been a great step in my career,” Segura said. “I’m proud to represent these colors.”
