The second edition of the Asia University Basketball League (AUBL) is set to take place in China this August, bringing together top collegiate teams from across the continent. South Korea’s Yonsei University and Korea University will represent the nation on the Asian stage.
Officially launched last year, the AUBL Championship will be held from August 2 at the Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China. The league is sanctioned by the Asia University Sports Federation (AUSF).
According to the tournament organizing committee on May 13, a total of 12 teams from China, Taiwan, Japan, Mongolia, Australia, the Philippines, and South Korea have confirmed participation. Among them are China’s Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as Japan’s Waseda University, Mongolia’s National University of Mongolia, and Australia’s University of Sydney.
From South Korea, Yonsei University and Korea University will compete. Korea University is the undisputed powerhouse of Korean collegiate basketball, having won the national championship five consecutive times from 2021 to 2025. This marks Korea University’s inaugural appearance in the AUBL.
Yonsei University, meanwhile, dominated the national championship from 2016 to 2020, securing five straight titles. The team also boasts experience in the region, having won the Asian University Basketball Challenge—a trial event for the AUBL—held in Hong Kong in December 2024.
Greg Stolt, Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations for the AUBL, expressed excitement about the upcoming tournament. “The 2026 AUBL Championship will be the highest level of competition, bringing together the most prestigious universities in Asia,” he said.
Sito Cheung Fab, Secretary-General of the AUSF, echoed his sentiments. “We are proud to gather the top university teams from all over Asia. We anticipate not only high-level competition but also a platform for sports and cultural exchange,” he added.
