Córdoba is determined to finish the season in spectacular fashion, even if mathematics might burst their bubble of hope in this frantic final stretch. However, with their agonizing 1-0 victory over Granada thanks to a goal from Jacobo González, they have not only etched their name in their own history, but also achieved something that perhaps holds even more value within this season’s Segunda División.
The record of six consecutive wins—against Cádiz (1-3), Zaragoza (1-0), Cultural (1-2), Sporting (3-2), Castellón (1-2), and Granada—is the longest streak in the club’s history in Segunda and, of course, in professional football. It matches a feat from the distant 1959-60 season, when they beat Atlético Almería (0-1), Rayo (1-0), Cádiz (1-3), Mestalla (3-0), Badajoz (0-2), and Jaén (1-0) in succession.

But more importantly, it is a milestone almost no other team has accomplished this season in the second division. League leaders Racing Santander could only string together four wins, though they did it twice. Almería, another direct promotion contender, also stalled at four. Deportivo La Coruña managed five wins on one occasion, as did Castellón during their climb from the lower reaches to the playoff zone. None reached six.
The only rival in Segunda to achieve something similar to Córdoba’s feat this campaign is Málaga. Between matchdays 18 and 23, Málaga—then coached by Juan Francisco Funes—won consecutively against Albacete (1-3), Almería (2-1), Sporting (1-3), Ceuta (2-1), Córdoba (0-1), and Burgos (3-0), before falling to Mirandés (2-1). The white-and-greens now have the chance to stand alone in this achievement if they beat Albacete this Friday.
