Texas baseball made history with its 13-6 victory on Sunday. The Longhorns not only avoided being swept by Tennessee but also secured the 1,500th win in program history. According to UT athletics, Texas becomes the first college baseball program to reach that milestone.
Casey Borba starred in the series finale, driving in six runs with a two-home run performance. The junior infielder now has 31 career home runs, tying for the ninth-most in school history with Drew Stubbs and Eric Kennedy. Texas (37-12, 16-10 SEC) hit a total of four homers, including two in the first inning.
After Texas jumped out to a four-run first inning, Tennessee tied the game. But the Longhorns kept scoring, plating runs in the third, fifth, sixth, and ninth innings. Borba crushed a grand slam in the sixth to make it 12-4. Freshman Anthony Pack Jr. and sophomore Adrian Rodriguez also went deep for Texas.
Ruger Riojas started for the Longhorns, allowing three hits and four runs over four innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked two. Left-hander Haiden Leffew earned the win in relief, striking out five and allowing just one hit in three innings.
Next up for UT is the final SEC series of the regular season, at home against Missouri.
